Sure Thing Insurance Essay Example for Free
Sure Thing Insurance Essay Name: Yashasvi ram v.s Case Study The root problem in this case is that the company here has the decentralized autonomy of the business units, but there is a lack of coordination between operating groups. To compensate this, Al was appointed as CIO to coordinate different I/T approaches of the business units and to advise the executive committee on the strategic aspect of I/T. But another problem here apart from the lack of coordination is that Al had line of responsibility for I/T in his previous job but in the current job he is given any authority over I/T and is accountable for any changes in there. Also, his advices on the strategic aspects were rarely sought and were never followed. He is struggling to take decisions regarding staffing, budget and he is wondering how other senior staff is able to manage. The first solution would do nothing/maintain the status quo, if nothing is done in this scenario, it would result in the downfall of the company because; there would be no proper coordination between I/T and if the advice given by Al on strategic aspects are effective but are not followed then that would result in huge loss to that unit. The minimum solution would be to follow some of the advices given by Al to the personal lines division that corporate policy demands a package to be used instead of writing premium system in COBOL. A CEO should consider this decision on the business grounds and find out the pros and cons of implementing some of these decisions and to later implement them. The ideal solution would be to give authority of I/T and the right amount of funding for Al to implement his ideas. As he already has a good experience previously in this field, his ideas of funding, strategic agendas should be followed with some consideration. Also, he should be given a chance to interact with other senior supervisors to know how they are managing the funds, their staff and so on. The long lasting solution would be, CEO considers the experience and also a skill set of their senior staff so that they can be assigned to the exact positions. This makes them work effectively and would contribute to the positive growth of the company. I would recommend the long lasting solution because, the main failure of the company here is not to identify their employees potential in the particular field and also implementing some of the functionalities (using COBOL) without any research on that. If these problems are rectified then coordination of all the business units can beà done effectively and this minimizes failure risk of Surething Insurance company. Things that can be done to prevent future failures: 1. Rapid expansion. 2. Under-reserving. 3. Unforeseen claims. 4. Under-Pricing. 5. Gross Incompetence. 6. Expansion into new areas.

Shakespeareââ¬â¢s Creativity Essay -- Literary Analysis, Twelfth Night
Shakespeareââ¬â¢s Creativity In William Shakespeareââ¬â¢s Twelfth Night, the art of music appears in the opening of the speech as the unhappy and lovesick Orsino tells his musicians, ââ¬Å"If music be the food of love, play onâ⬠(I.i.1) In the speech that follows, Orsino asks the musicians to give him so much musical love i.e. food that will ââ¬Å"surfeitâ⬠and cease to yearn for love any longer. Shakespeare uses music in opening line of play and at the end by Feste singing his song. It reveals that Shakespeare has presented on stage a romantic comedy which is not detached from our everyday reality. Thus songs are used by Shakespeare with surfeiting desire not only for the purpose of entertaining the audience but also closely linked to the playââ¬â¢s theme. Defining Music Music, as commonly in the English Oxford Dictionary is the ââ¬Å"art or science of combining vocal or instrumental sounds to produce beauty of form, melodyâ⬠or ââ¬Å"the vocal or instrumental sound produced by practical exercise of the art of musicâ⬠. Music is also described as ââ¬Å"a musical composition or a performanceâ⬠which can be seen in Shakespeare Cymbeline: ââ¬Å"I haue assaylââ¬â¢d her with Muscikes, but she vouchsafes no noticeâ⬠(II.ii.37). Shakespeare also uses music as the ââ¬Å"cries of a pack of hounds on seeing the chaseâ⬠(IV.i.105) in Midsummer Nightââ¬â¢s Dream. Music in Shakespeareââ¬â¢s Twelfth Night opening speech is written as ââ¬Å"MuÃ
¿ickeâ⬠in the EBBO version whereas it is spelled ââ¬Å"musicâ⬠in our class text. The word ââ¬Å"musicâ⬠has been spelled differently throughout the years. Shakespeare uses the word ââ¬Å"musicâ⬠differently in his plays, such as: ââ¬Å"musickes,â⬠ââ¬Å "musique,â⬠and ââ¬Å"music.â⬠The word ââ¬Å"musicâ⬠is spelled differently in the OED and in the song, with different alphabetic but pronounced the same way.... ...areââ¬â¢s writings. Edward W. Naylor writes in his essay that, ââ¬Å"this is the more satisfactory, as no subject in literature has been treated with greater scorn for accuracy, or general lack of real interest, than this of musicâ⬠. Music is the only topic that the audience and the readers view with content and a smile on their face. Shakespeareââ¬â¢s musical references are mostly found in comedies, but the musical stage direction that is presented in tragedies is due to the military nature or politics that bound the play. Shakespeare knew the impact of music on the society and during his time. Naylor also suggests that music ââ¬Å"was considered an essential part of a clergymenââ¬â¢s educationâ⬠and this notifies the value music held in the society. In the Dukeââ¬â¢s case, ââ¬Å"If music be the food of love, play onâ⬠, music seems to be rigorous and the musicians perform it with peacefulness.

Analysis Essay
I. Frethorne, Richard. On Indentured Servitude. Edited by Howard Zinn, Anthony Arnove. New York, NY: Seven Stories Press, 2009 II. Frethorne talks about his miserable experience to be an indentured server. He writes the letter to his parents and describes the horrendous conditions he is in. Frethorne states some vital facts. He also writes that people who suffer as indentured servants are willing to lose either leg or arm but to move back to England. According to Frethrone he is working on plantation somewhere in Virginia that is located about ten miles away from Jamestown. He is begging his parents to either send him some money for good living or help him to return to England. Richard Frethorne emphasizes that his life depends on his parents and he hopes that his family is doing fine. III. Richard Frethorneââ¬â¢s letter provides and illuminating picture of the hardships of colonization in the early seventeenth century, especially for the class of indentured servants. Combating isolation, disease, homesickness, hunger and discomfort, Frethorne and his fellow settlers struggled to make a success of their fledgling community. Life in early Virginia was particularly challenging because of the shortage of supplies, the prevalence of disease, and tense relations with the Native Americans. The source is relevant to our course because it describes the social issue that was discussed in our class. Indentured servitude was cheaper for the rulers of British Empire before the moment when indentured servants became capable of surviving the seven-year period and acquiring the land that was promised to them. After that moment slavery of African Americans was demanded. IV. This source influences the interpretation of the historical narrative by providing extra information about the real situation in the colonies. People in England thought that indentured servitude was not a dangerous thing and was an easy way of claiming some land in America. However, Frethornââ¬â¢s letter to his parents proves the opposite of what was thought. By provided examples of harsh conditions he states that all the servants who already arrived to America had desire to move back to England. He has no money to live. He is starving and afraid of the Indians invading, he begs his parents to hurry up and help his soon for his life depends on it. Of course there is possibility of poor Frethorne to exaggerate because the letter was addressed to his parents; therefore, he has a good discretion of what it might have been like to liveà in New England at the time he was there in 1623. Indentured Servitude was a form of slavery but with a better name instead of calling things wit h its names.
